Finding The Right Brassware for Your Bathroom Design

When designing your new bathroom, selecting your brassware can be one of the more exciting decisions you get to make. From bringing an elevated experience to the touch and feel of your bathroom to adding character and personality to the space through style and colour, selecting your brassware is a great way to get creative and add a touch of your personal flair. But with so many styles and types to choose from, how do you find the perfect brassware for your bathroom design? We’re here to guide you through everything you need to know about brassware and help you find the right style for your space.

Understanding The Terminology

When browsing bath and basin taps, you are likely to come across a range of terminology that might be new to you. Understanding this terminology is a good place to start as it tells you about how the tap looks and functions. So, what does it all mean?

Mono or Monobloc: Mono, or Monobloc, simply means a tap that only has one piece where the handle to control the flow and temperature is connected to the main body and spout. You might have also seen this referred to as a mixer tap. Mono basin taps can also come as a tall variation. The extended height of this tap is designed to be used with a countertop basin.

1TH, 2TH & 3TH: When you see any of these in the description for a tap, it details how many components make up the whole tap. In this instance, TH stands for tap holes, letting you know how many holes will need to be in the basin, bath, worktop or wall to install each component of the brassware. For example, 1TH would be a mono tap with only one element which includes the spout and mixer. A tap with two tap holes would have a single dial that controls the flow and temperature that sits separately from the spout, giving you two components. A 3TH tap would have a spout, a hot control and a cold control all separate from each other, giving you three individual pieces.

Deck Mounted vs Wall Mounted: These terms describe where in relation to the basin or bath the tap sits. If a tap is deck mounted, it means that it will be installed directly onto the bath or basin, rising up from the ceramic edge and over into the bowl. Wall mounted taps, as the name suggests, are installed into the wall above the bath or basin with a horizontal projection. The main considerations when choosing between the two are the style you want to achieve and the space that you have available. Wall mounted taps give a more modern and elevated appearance but require space within the wall for plumbing, whereas deck mounted taps are easier to install and generally have more style options.

Bath Shower Mixer: When looking at bath taps, you might come across something called a bath shower mixer. While this might sound look a lot of different words put together, it actually details the different functions within the piece of brassware. This type of bath tap also includes a handheld shower head and the ability to switch the water flow between the two elements, allowing you to easily fill your bath while having the convenience of a moveable source of water all within the same piece.

Choosing The Right Brassware Finish for Your Design

Selecting the finish for your brassware is a big deal when designing your new bathroom. When choosing your colour scheme, it’s a good idea to include an accent colour that will compliment your walls, floor and furniture. This colour can then be used across your brassware and accessories to elevate your design and tie all areas of your space together to create a unified design.

All our brassware and accessory ranges are available in three modern finishes: Chrome, Brushed Brass and Matt Black. Neutral and conventional, Chrome offers a bright and shiny appearance that can blend into any colour scheme. As this colour doesn’t draw much attention to itself, it can be used to make other colours in your bathroom design stand out. It is also a great option when creating a crisp, bright and spa-like bathroom.

Brushed Brass and Matt Black offer a highly modern alternative that brings an intriguing element to your space. With its golden hue, Brushed Brass creates warmth and elegance within the space. Pairing beautifully with trending colour schemes, such as pinks, greens and oranges, Brushed Brass can elevate almost any bathroom design. Matt Black is a timeless and highly versatile brassware finish. The colour black brings sophistication and a striking focal point to the bathroom. Its incredible versatility means that this colour can be used in a wide range of colour schemes and styles, ranging from monochrome and minimalist to bold and maximalist.
